SMS Messaging

With SatQuick (no longer available), SMS messages could be typed on your laptop or tablet, and sent off over the 9505A with a mouse click. No more fumbling with the phone's keypad to "type" a message. In most cases SMS messages were delivered within 30 seconds, making SMS a viable method for "chatting" in text.

Address Book Management

The 9505A handset has memory for over 250 phone numbers and names in its addressbook. With SatQuick, you could build an addressbook for your phone including importing contact information from the Windows Addressbook. If you already had all of your contact information there, most of the work was already done! After arranging the contacts into the three available storage classes, they could be uploaded to the 9505A with a single click. You could also download any contacts you may have already had, and either save them in SatQuick, as a comma-delimited text file, or merge them directly into Windows Addressbook. Addressbook entries could be dialed with a single click, and there was a Direct Dialing window available so that you could type in a number to be dialed directly, without having to use the phone's keypad - very convenient if the phone was mounted to a bulkhead or in a transit case. In short, SatQuick made the 9505A's addressbook useful!

Geopositioning

Although you may not know it, when you place a call the Iridium network calculates your position on earth. This information was made available in SatQuick, both as the raw data and converted to Latitude and Longitude. While not of the precision of GPS, the position is accurate to within several kilometers. It might be just the thing in an emergency if you have lost your other positioning capablities at sea.

Coordinated Universal Time

The Iridium network also provides a time service, and SatQuick allowed access to this. You could get the UTC time, and then automatically set the 9505A's internal clock or your computer's clock, complete with automatic time zone offset.
